Fiji business warns against public administration row

3:41 pm on 23 March 2004

Fiji's business community is calling for stability in the country following several days of public rows between the military commander, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, and the head of the Prime Minister's office, Jioji Kotobalavu.

The Fiji Times says the Fiji Employers' Federation warns that the situation has the potential to develop into a national crisis.

It's president, Hafiz Khan, is quoted as saying any sign of instability has serious implications on the economy and investor confidence.

The President of the Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Taito Waradi, says investor confidence can only be increased if the military commander and the government resolve their differences.

The president of the Fiji Retailers Association, Himmat Lodhia, says such stand offs should not happen and people must start talking rather than attacking each other publicly.
