Fiji business seeks end to row between government and army head

6:22 am on 24 March 2004

Fiji's business community wants the current row between the head of Fiji's military and the head of the Prime Minister's Office to be resolved.

The commander wants two top officials removed from office for being an alleged risk to national security.

There are concerns that increased instability could affect investor confidence.

The President of Fiji's Employer's Federation, Hafiz Khan, says if the situation drags on it could have an economic impact:

"What we feel is that it should be resolved very quickly. If it continues at the same level then obviously it will start having an effect on people's perception of whether this place is safe."

Mr Khan says similar issues raised in the past were resolved amicably and he hopes something similar can be done to prevent the row escalating.
