A group of candidates in the May provincial elections in New Caledonia says they will distribute 20-thousand DVDs and video cassettes to promote their campaign.

The 13-minute film was produced on behalf of the movement, A Future Together, which includes the Alliance party and a breakaway faction of the main party, the anti-independence RPCR Party.

The film questions government policies and raises issues such as tourism, freedom of expression and the territory's mining industry.

One of the candidates, Harold Martin, says in France the use of DVD and cassettes is an unprecedented approach to campaigning.

The film will be distributed to about 20-thousand households, mainly in the Noumea area.
