Pacific trade ministers meet in PNG

4:31 pm on 8 April 2004

Seven Pacific trade ministers are currently meeting with the New Zealand and Australian high commissioners in the Papua New Guinea capital, Port Moresby.

They are discussing how to fund the PACER agreement which provides for closer economic relations and free trade.

Theo Yasause of the Pacific Islands Secretariat says their talks have covered many topics and are progressing well.

"This morning the officers are discussing a funding arrangement for trade facilitation, a programme in relation to quarantine, customs administration and its conformance in relation to goods that are being imported and exported between the Pacific Island countries, in particular to Australia and New Zealand, to try and lift the standard of those products."
