The US military says the space agency NASA will be conducting upper atmosphere research in the Marshall Islands from July until September.
Officials at the military base at Kwajalein say the plan is to test an electronic shield and will involve branching the work out to the atolls of Bikini, Rongelap and Likiep where cameras will be placed.
NASA already uses the Kwajalein facilities for the tracking of space objects.
NASA is now seeking young Marshall Islanders wanting to join the programme and who are studying in fields such as meteorology, radio communications and computers.
