Vanuatu's Minister of Internal Affairs, George Wells is calling for politicians to be kept under close scrutiny, for fear of sparking a major conflict in the country.

George Wells says he wants to avoid major conflicts, like those in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

He says land is one issue for conflict, and politics is the other.

"We have to really be very careful about is the attitude of politicians. We have to do things according to the rule of laws. And if we are not careful, that can spark any tensions or any conflict in Vanuatu. We have to address this issue earlier, before its too late or we may end up like the Solomon Islands. We don't want this to happen."
