American Samoa power firm mulls military contract bid

The American Samoa Power Authority may submit an offer to operate utilities for the Anderson Air Force Base in Guam.

The Authority's Executive Director, Utu Abe Malae, says ASPA is looking into the feasibility of making a bid in response to a Request for Proposals recently put out by the US Department of Defence.

Utu says any proposal made by ASPA would have to be reviewed and approved by the board.

He said ASPA would not be the primary contractor but would go in with other partners who would take the lead and most of the risk.

The executive director says ASPA has invested heavily in training and education of technicians and engineers and every opportunity should be made to utilise their skills.
