A woman in her thirties has come forward in French Polynesia to claim a 15 million US dollar prize in last weekend's French lotto.

The woman, who is described as a Polynesian, walked into the Papeete lotto office with the winning ticket last night after days of speculation about who the winner was.

The lotto company told the Tahitipresse news agency that she wants to keep her identity secret.

It says a cheque for the sum will be transferred to her within days.
