Papua New Guinea's Supreme Court has ruled that a directions hearing on a case brought by the Chief Ombudsman, Ila Geno, over the government's five month adjournment of parliament, will continue on the 28th of this month.
A directions hearing yesterday agreed that the matter be deferred until after parliament convenes on the 27th to elect a new governor-general.
Counsel for the Chief Ombudsman, Nemo Yalo, told the National newspaper that all parties in the case had agreed to the deferral because there could be other matters arising in parliament which might affect proceedings.
The case concerns the Chief Ombudsman's claim that the five month adjournment is unconstitutional.
