Papua New Guinea's Chief Ombudsman, Ila Geno, wants more government departments to return to Bougainville.

Mr Geno has been in Bougainville helping with the establishment of an ombudsman service in the province.

He told the Post-Courier newspaper that he was impressed with the level of development in the province, declaring Buka "normal and better than Port Moresby in terms of security."

He urged national departments to have a more tangible presence on Bougainville to help the province to rehabilitate services and improve the delivery of basic services like health, education and infrastructure.
