Plans are underway in American Samoa to address the continued shortage of nurses and the decline in the number of new recruits.
During a political rally over the weekend, Governor Togiola Tulafono, said one of the major problems now faced by the government owned LBJ Medical Centre was the nursing shortage.
The government plans to address the problem by starting nursing school courses at high school level.
Togiola said the government has also awarded the hospital half a million dollars to retrain current nurses and physicians to further improve health care in the territory.
