Fiji military too busy to consider apology over Mara ousting

3:44 pm on 28 April 2004

The Fiji Military says they are too busy preparing for Sir Mara's funeral to respond now to a call by the ands minister, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu for an apology for the president's removal during the May 2000 coup.

The restoration of the 1997 Constitution by the Appeal Court made the removal of Ratu Mara from the presidency illegal.

But a spokesman for the commander, Captain Ned Taito, says he does not know at this stage, whether an apology will be given.
