3:55 pm on 29 April 2004

The Acting Secretary of Civil Aviation in Tonga says the suspension of Royal Tongan Airlines international service will have a negative impact on the kingdom.

Tonga's national carrier halted international services last week

The leased plane was repossessed by its owners, Royal Brunei Airlines, leaving up to 5-hundred passengers stranded.

Tevita Kaitu-Fotu says he doesn't have much information on the airline but he says the incident will have a major effect on income that Royal Tongan was providing.

"Their landing charges, our airport taxes, it does affect as very much. Besides the people, the travelling public, the ministry is feeling - well it's affected the ministry too."
