American Samoa mourns former port director

Funeral services for the former Port Director in American Samoa are to be held this weekend.

Seugogo Herman Schirmer, who was a retired commander in the US Navy, is the second cabinet member to die in the last month.

He died last Thursday, from what's believed to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The lack of information has fuelled rumours about Seugogo's untimely passing.

Meanwhile the territory's member of the US Congress, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has spoken publicly about the death.

"I am very, very shocked, and still absolutely surprised at what had happened. This has happened to such a good friend and Samoa's lost a great leader and a great example to our young people, having achieved such a high office in the military, in the navy, as an officer."
