Marshall Islands President Kessai Note is expected to depart for a two nation visit to Asia on Monday, according to a spokesman in the President¹s Office.
He will first be traveling to South Korea to receive an honorary degree from Soon Chunhyang University, and also to discuss a possible medical student exchange programme, officials said.
After visiting South Korea, Mr Note will fly to Taiwan for the inauguration of Taiwan President Shui-Bian Chen that is scheduled for May 20.
The Marshall Islands and Taiwan established diplomatic ties in late 1998 and Taiwan is now the second largest aid donor to the Marshall Islands behind the United States.
Mr Note is expected to return to Majuro on May 27.
Accompanying him on the trip will be the First Lady Mary Note, Foreign Minister Gerald Zackios and his wife Joti, public relations officer Bob Jericho, President¹s Office staff Chris deBrum and security Johnny Antolok. Ambassador Yong Y Ji is to accompany Note on the South Korea portion of the trip.
