American Samoan lashes UN over Papua stance

American Samoa's member of the US Congress has been critical of the UN Committee saying that countries with an anti American agenda are using it to take pot shots at the US.

Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin says he suspects he was deliberately not invited to the Papua New Guinea seminar on decolonisation because of previous comments on the matter.

American Samoa is on the UN decolonisation list despite demands that it be taken off.

Faleomavaegasays the UN should look at a real case of colonialism in the Pacific and that is the case of Indonesia taking over Papua.

"And do you think the members of the United Nations are willing to bring this issue up? Of course not. It's controversial to Australia, it's controversial to Indonesia."
