Files stolen from PNG fraud squad

Senior police investigators in Papua New Guinea are investigating the disappearance of investigation files from the Port Moresby office of the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Squad.

The National newspaper quotes a senior detective inspector as saying a certain police officer in the squad was believed to have removed the files.

Among the missing files are those concerning allegations of misappropriation against former head of the U-Vistract pyramid scheme, Noah Musingku, and another file said to contain a forgery of the prime minister's signature.

Also missing are files related to a number of missing weapons including a rifle with 37 rounds of ammunition and a police pistol and ammunition.
