Fiji's Native Lands Trust Board has admitted awarding a multi-million dollar contract to an overseas company, Pacific Connex Limited, who have been sued for negligence in Singapore.
The Fiji Times reports that the Labour Party has called for a commission of inquiry into the awarding of the 9-point-2 million US dollar contract to Pacific-Connex.
Labour says no vetting was done before Pacific-Connex, a joint venture between the NLTB's Vanua Development Corporation and Tui Consulting, was contracted to manage the Board's Information Technology system.
Labour says a Singapore Power Board subsidiary sued Tui Consulting in November last year, after encountering billing problems worth about 800-million Singapore dollars.
Company records show the directors of Pacific-Connex are former Fiji resident, Ballu Khan, now of New Zealand and another New Zealander, Dario Jaegger.
