Solomons parliament opens to debate two bills

The Solomon Islands National Parliament has resumed sitting today with two amendment bills ready to be tabled.

The parliamentary clerk, Ta'asi Sanga, says the Sales Tax Amendment Bill and the High Court Prescription Amendment Bill have been received for this session.

At the same time, the Prime Minister Sir Allan Kemakeza has revealed that the new Governor General will be elected at the end of the session to replace Sir John Ini Lapli whose term is finishing.

He says government is yet to decide on a candidate for the post and nominations will soon open.

It is possible for Sir John Ini Lapli to have a second term.
