Solomons official apologizes in Parliament to top RAMSI policeman

4:01 pm on 3 June 2004

The Solomon Islands foreign secretary has apologised to the Deputy police commissioner for embarrassing his office following a recent incident where Regional Assistance Police broke into the VIP lounge at Henderson Airport.

The apology by Peter Forau to Deputy Commissioner Ben McDevitt was read in Parliament by Police Minister Michael Maina.

Mr Forau had written a protest note to Mr McDevitt after the incident in which the RAMSI officers removed the ceiling to gain entry into the locked lounge.

Mr Maina says the secretary has now apologised for unnecessarily placing Mr McDevitt's office in disrepute.
