Solomon Islands MPs will tomorrow choose a new Governor General from seven candidates.

Father Sir John Ini Lapli's five year term has been completed though he is standing as a candidate to continue in the job.

Other prominent candidates for the vice regal role include former Prime Minister and current Speaker Sir Peter Kenilorea, Nathaniel Waena, the Minister of Peace Unity and Reconciliation, and Toswill Kaua, the Secretary to Cabinet.

The Governor General will be chosen in a secret ballot with Parliament closed to the public and media.
