Fiji's has recorded its first live birth of a pair of Siamese twins.

The two girls, born to an Indian couple at Suva's Colonial War Memorial Hospital, are joined along the front of their bodies and reported to share one heart and liver.

A team of doctors yesterday carried out surgery to close an abdominal wall which was open at birth and stabilise the twins.

Dr Manaina Bilivalu says they are depending on humanitarian goodwill to help send the twins abroad for further complex surgery.
