American Samoan soldier injured in Iraq

4:27 pm on 26 April 2005

The commanding general of the 29th Brigade Combat Team, Brigadier General Joseph Chaves, says an American Samoan soldier is among a dozen soldiers that have been wounded in Iraq in just more than a week.

The American Samoan solider, who hasn't been named, had a leg and a wrist broken when a bomb blew off an armoured personnel carrier's bumper and a tyre.

Brig. Gen. Joseph Chaves says in two of the locations where Hawai'i National Guard and Reserve soldiers are based, vehicle-borne and roadside bomb attacks are on the rise.

Soldiers working in these areas include those from Hawaii, Guam, the Northern Marianas and American Samoa.
