Pacific Forum sends a high level team to offer support to Nauru

A Parliamentary delegation from Pacific Islands Forum countries is to visit Nauru this week to get a firsthand view of the problems facing the country.

The delegation, made up of the President of the Fiji Senate, and Parliament Speakers from Kiribati, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu will meet Nauru's President Ludwig Scotty and other government members, as well as representatives from the private sector and civil society.

The Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Greg Urwin, says the visit is an opportunity to share experiences, and is unlikely to lead to any sort of action plan for Nauru.

"I'm not at this stage expecting some major all purpose plan to come out of this but I just see it as part of the process by which the forum can support Nauru in its difficulties."

The Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Greg Urwin says similar visits to other Pacific Parliaments are planned in the future.
