Papua New Guinea's government is to seek international assistance to help the Central Province people affected by the recent floods caused by unseasonal torrential rains.

Inter-Government Relations Minister Sir Peter Barter, who is responsible for the National Disaster Office, has told the Post Courier he is waiting for reports on what is needed to restore damaged gardens and to get roads and bridges repaired.

Sir Peter also acknowledged assistance provided by local agencies including the Red Cross, non-government organisations, and Local Level and Provincial Governments.

He also praised the contributions made by local churches and communities.
