French Polynesian president defers trip home

4:18 pm on 22 July 2004

It has been announced that the French Polynesian president, Oscar Temaru, will delay his return to Tahiti because of a previously unscheduled meeting with the Chinese ambassador in Paris.

The Tahitipresse news agency says Mr Temaru will meet Zhao Jin Jun today before returning to Papeete at the weekend.

The French Polynesian delegation has been in Brussels this week after its first meeting with the French government in Paris last week following the change of government in French Polynesia last month.
