Celebrations to mark the first anniversary of the arrival of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands have kicked off in Honiara.
Senior leaders and defence and police force chiefs from throughout the region have gathered to take part in the week-long programme.
Johnny Blades reports.
"An official parade by participants of the Assistance Mission this morning will culminate in a ceremony at Lawson Tama Stadium."
The ceremony will be followed by a series of cultural festivities celebrating the achievement of this regional intervention mission in restoring security to a country that was plagued by lawlessness.
Solomon Islands prime minister Sir Allan Kemakeza says the festivities will focus on the renewed opportunities now available for his people.
Those celebrations will reflect not just the mission's success in law and order, but the support it has received throughout the country.
