Fiji's Seniloli trial to continue on treason charges

2:33 pm on 27 July 2004

The Suva High Court has ruled that Fiji vice president Seniloli and five others have a case to answer for treason.

Local radio reports say Justice Nazhat Shameem, gave the ruling after defence lawyers, at the end of the prosecution's evidence, submitted that their clients had no case to answer.

But Justice Shameem ruled that there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed.

She told the accused that they could choose to remain silent or give sworn or unsworn statements on which they could be questioned.

Justice Shameem agreed to adjourn the trial till tomorrow morning to give defence lawyers time to study her ruling.
