French Polynesian plane stuck for weeks on Ua Pou

Air Tahiti says it could take months until its plane stuck on French Polynesia's Marquesas islands is fixed and fit for service again.

The Twin Otter plane with 11 people on board ran off the runway when it landed on Ua Pou.

Because of the limits imposed by the terrain, the runway is built on a slope to allow for rapid take-off and to slow landing aircraft.

The airline says an Air Moorea will be used for the interisland service.
