Guam seeks Forum observer status

2:37 pm on 30 July 2004

The governor of Guam, Felix Camacho, says he would like his territory to gain observer status at the Pacific Islands Forum.

He says he is enthusiastic about the concept of regional cooperation.

Mr Camacho says he will be seeking support for a US-affiliated presence at the Forum.

"The American territories represented in an observer status of anything - that would be wonderful. If I could get an invitation to attend I would certainly love to go. It would be an initiation for me to understand the many issues that are before us. But I'm excited and, as governor of Guam, will encourage the other leaders to join with me so that eventually we could get into that forum."
