The Commissioner of Police in Samoa has offered condolences to the family of the man who was allegedly killed by a police officer in the weekend saying the event was amongst the saddest and most disappointing days as commissioner.

Policeman Tupou Ainuu was charged with murder for an alleged fatal assault on Manoli Samuelu on the night of Saturday July 23rd.

Twenty-five-year-old Samuelu, who had two children, had been arrested several hours earlier.

Commissioner Papali'i Lorenese Neru told Samuelu's parents that he will not tolerate corruption or malpractice among police and any officers found to have transgressed the law will be dealt with swiftly.

Ainuu, who is 33, entered a plea of not guilty to murder on Tuesday.

An application for bail by defence counsel was turned down and the case was adjourned to August 9th.
