The Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry has condemned proposals for higher telecommunications and electricity charges, saying it will scare potential investors and stifle economic growth.
The Daily Post quotes the chamber president, Taito Waradi, as saying that raising telecommunications and electricity charges will immediately impact on the cost of doing business in Fiji.
Mr Waradi says they will discourage private sector investors whose spirit and confidence was bouyed by the recent High Court jailing of the coup conspirators and the seven year extension of the SPARTECA agreement for the entry of Fiji garments into Australia.
He says Fiji must bring down the cost of doing business when it is competing against more cost effective and more efficient economies.
