It's reported that the United Nations has been asked to investigate allegations of police human rights abuses in the Indonesian province of Papua.

The Jakarta Post newspaper reports that the Office for Justice and Peace of Jayapura and the Franciscans International have asked the UN to intervene over the detention of two Papuans.

It's alleged that police in Wamena have denied proper medical attention to the two men who are awaiting trial over allegations that they stole weapons last year from a military arsenal in Bolakme near Wamena.
