Solomons to honour value of coconut as resource

The Solomon Islands will celebrate the coconut tree as a sustainable resource and showcase the diversity of coconut products.

International Coconut day on September 2nd, will be celebrated by all members of the Asia Pacific Coconut Community in Honiara .

The day's programmes will include display of handicrafts and carvings made from coconuts and food preparations based on coconut products.

The Solomon Islands radio reports the chair of the working committee, John Smith Vollraith, as saying it aims to educate the government and aid donors to give more resources to develop coconut products.

This year's theme is "Coconut - God's gift for Livelihood, Peace and Economic Recovery for Solomon Islands".
