Niue considers reconstruction options

4:18 pm on 23 August 2004

The Niue government is considering nine different options for rebuilding the area of Alofi south flattened by Cyclone Heta in January of this year.

Among the possibilities put forward are the relocation of Alofi north and south.

There are also suggestions for a nine hole golf course and a park and the rebuilding of the government settlement known as the Golden Mile.

The proposals have been put forward by a group of town planners based at Manukau City council in south Auckland.
