The Cook Islands Cabinet has approved a proposal for a state-owned radio station to operate from the grounds of the Office of the Prime Minister.

A temporary studio located in the former cabinet room at the Office of the Prime Minister compound has been completed.

The proposal came from the Cook Islands Broadcasting Corporation which has drafted a new Media Bill and Code of Practice.

The CIBC expressed concern over existing radio services being able to beam quality signals all over the country, and even certain areas of Rarotonga.
