The biggest-ever national budget for the Marshall Islands, was introduced in parliament last night.

At 114.2 million USdollars, it amounts to more than $2000 for every one of the estimated 55,000 Marshall Islanders.

United States funding through a recently implemented Compact of Free Association will provide nearly two thirds of the revenue for the budget.

Taiwan, the country¹s second major aid donor behind the United States, is providing $6 million dollars.

Locally generated taxes, fishing fees, the country¹s flag of convenience ship registry and other sources are expected to generate another $31.9 million dollars.

Two ministries, education and health, will receive the lion's share of funding.

The Ministry of Education is to receive its biggest share ever, at $22.9 million, with the Ministry of Health getting the next largest share at $14.9 million.
