Pitciarn Islanders have two days left to hand in guns

A deadline is looming on Pitcairn Island, for residents to hand in their guns, ahead of the trial of seven men facing sexual abuse charges.

Officials say a notice has been put up by the police officer, for all guns to be handed in by Wednesday.

The deputy governor of Pitcairn, Matthew Forbes, says the island's police officer will determine whether all firearms have been handed in.

Mr Forbes says it will become clear whether a call to surrender arms voluntarily is enough, or whether force is needed to make people comply.
