The ruling Cook Islands Democratic party is predicting that it will win a clear majority at the elections this week.

The party president, Makiuti Tongia, says everybody has had enough of coalition governments and they want a clear mandate.

He says they should do very well on Rarotonga and in the southern group.

"We've done our rounds. We've done the visits to all the islands in the southern group and we've done the groundwork. The committee and the campaigning team paid visits to them and had face to face contact. And, I'm confident that we will win at least 80 percent of the seats."
