Media strike affects New Caledonia

9:06 am on 8 September 2004

More media in New Caledonia are being hit by strike action.

The territory's only daily newspaper, the Nouvelles Caledoniennes, is now faced with a strike which began yesterday.

This comes as the public radio and tv broadcaster, RFO, has been unable to carry any news and current affairs broadcasts for nearly three weeks.

The USTKE union has paralysed the station in a dispute triggered by a Kanak employee rejecting his work contract.
