Supplies of nonu in Samoa falling short of demand

The founder of Samoa's main exporter of nonu plant products says supply is falling short of demand.

The comments from Faasavalu Siaosi Tinielu of Nonu Samoa Enterprises have come as businesses try to capitalise on a recent government drive to publicise nonu's benefits as a cash crop.

The government-backed Nonu Day has drawn attention to the fact that nonu is second only to fish as an export.

The Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele says nonu has been a good earner for French Polynesia and Tonga.

Tuilaepa says there is nothing to stop nonu from becoming Samoa's top export.
