American Samoa Senate postpones corruption investigations

9:32 am on 24 September 2004

Hearings of American Samoa's Senate Select Investigative Committee scheduled for this week and next have been postponed indefinitely.

Committee chairman, Senator Lualemaga Faoa, says out of respect for the passing of Senate President, Lutu Fuimaono, the committee has postponed its hearings until after the funeral.

Among witnesses scheduled to testify are the the Director and Deputy Director of Education, the chairman of the Development Bank Board of Directors and the acting bank president and the Director of Parks and Recreation.

Senator Lualemaga says the postponement has no connection with Attorney general Fiti Sunia's directive to American Samoa governmant officials and employees not to comply with Committee subpoenas.
