A former MP held hostage in the May 2000 overthrow of the Fiji government is refusing to accept an apology from coup frontman George Speight.
Adi Koila Mara Nailatikau was responding to efforts by the Ministry of Reconcilation to get Speight and his coup convicts to apologise personally to the parliamentarians they held hostage for 56 days.
But the deposed minister of transport, says her late father, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, would still be alive if he hadn't been ousted as president at Speight's demand.
Adi Koila claims the pressure led to her father's poor health, followed by the death of the former first lady, Adi Lady Lala Mara.
"If it wasn't for George Speight or the coup perpetrators, that's Nata, Timoci Silatolu and there are some that are in parliament in the lower house and probably in the senate as well and still walking around, my parents would still be here today."
She says Speight and his henchmen must do their time in jail.
