The American Samoa Power Authority is appealing to the public to conserve water, as low rainfall has forced the closure of some wells.
But recently, there have been reports of people washing cars, and the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Fonoti Perelini Perelini, says the message may not be getting through.
He says he wants other government agencies to assist in cutting down water usage.
"In the last four months our rainfall has been low compared to what we normally get, so we asked the public to cut down on car wash or spraying the road to stop the dust. We have written a letter to the Director of Parks and Recreation to assist because I think his department approves for those who do car washes in park areas."
