Solomons could soon have expat police commanders in four provinces

7:40 am on 4 October 2004

The Solomon's Minister for Police, Michael Maina, has said that four provinces will have expatriate police commanders soon.

Speaking during the opening of a regional assistance mission post in the Temotu Provincial capital, Lata, Mr Maina said Choiseul, Malaita, Temotu and the Western provinces are those which have been identified to have expatriate police commanders.

He told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that the commanders will remain in the posts until such time as local officers can takeover those positions.

Mr Maina said the expatriates should assist in putting back authority, discipline and loyalty into the Solomon Islands police.
