Report on PNG Telikom sale to be released this week

Papua New Guinea's minister for Public Enterprises and Information says a report on the independent review into the proposed sale of Telikom PNG will be released this week.

Dr Puka Temu says the government is awaiting the report before it makes a decision on the proposed sale of 51 percent of Telikom to Zimbabwe-based company Econet.

The report is currently being discussed by key stakeholders before it is presented to cabinet this week.

The independent review was ordered by the government in response to concerns about Econet's reputation.

But Dr Temu says continual media criticism by opposition leader Peter O'Neill about the proposed sale and the review is premature.

"All the issues have been taken care of and all those form part of the terms of reference of the independent review. And the report is now available and a good opposition leader should, like all of us, wait for the report to be delivered to the Prime Minister and then the Prime Minister will make the outcome of the report public."
