A Honiara businessman and candidate in the last Solomon Islands election, Rolland Timo, has been jailed 20 months for demanding money with menaces and interfering with witnesses.

However the Honiara Magistrates Court acquitted him on several charges, including a second count of demanding money, conspiracy to prevent justice and conspiracy to defeat justice.

The SIBC reports that Timo is still expected to face the court on three charges of conspiracy to murder, and assault and firearms offences.
