The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands have received an Approved Destination Status from China.

This comes a year after the CNMI sought its approval.

The move is seen as a major incentive that guides Chinese tourists when making travel choices.

Governor Juan Babauta's economic advisor on China, Michael Kwan, says it will allow the Commonwealth to now openly advertise in China.

CNMI government officials will go to China next month to sign the agreement.
