In Solomon Islands a former Clerk of the Honiara City Council, David Firisua, is to appear at the central Magistrates Court today on charges of rape.

Mr Firisua is alleged to have raped a 21-year-old on the night of October 4th at the defendant's home in the country's capital Honiara.

The former clerk then appeared in court the following day and was released on bail.

Meanwhile the former Agriculture Minister Alex Bartlett yesterday appeared in court to continue to be remanded in custody until November 4th.

Mr Bartlett is facing charges of demanding money with menaces, false pretences, inciting others to commit offences, and arson.
