Regional energy experts are holding a workshop on the Cook Islands outer island of Mangaia next week.

The Cook Islands director for energy, Mata Nooroa, says the emphasis of the workshop will be on preparing terms of reference for a feasibility study for wind energy.

There are two 20 kilowatt wind turbines installed on the island.

Mata Nooroa says they are part of a pilot project which involves using the wind turbines to supplement the two diesel generators on Mangaia.

He says nothing concrete has been decided regarding wind energy in the Cook islands but the project has been very successful.
